Fantastic! Ready to drink upon opening and on day 2 even better. Full-bodied savory blueberry and raspberry fruit, smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and a nice long finish leaves me wanting nothing more at the moment. I'd put the enjoyment factor of this cuvee up against many $200+ Napa wines, so it's a deal. Bought in Spain for around $55. Aged 2 years in a mix of new French and American barrels, then aged another year in bottle. Produced from the oldest vines in the vineyard.

Wonderful wine that's so fine to drink. See previous notes, it was more of the same tonight. Never tire of the morphing character of this Bordeaux blend.

Just a really solid showing tonight, besting another of my favorites, a 2012 Bevan Wildfoote also opened. And that's no small feat!
It just has so much complexity. There's herbal sensations one second, there's dark black fruit another, then morphs into cherry and flirts with blueberry with swirling intensity all around, and the fruit's all there, it's still quite pure. I don't know what barrels it came from but it had to be from one of the upper echelon of Rudd's Oakville offerings. Maybe my best QPR buy ever.
12/13/2020 6:42:00 AM - Gary - This is the first year that I have purchased the Becklyn Pangkarra. I think that I will wait 2-3 years before trying. Knowing the 2017 was their first year for this wine, there are some good reviews by respected CT's. Considering it was a down year, their reviews were enough to convince me to pick up a few 2018s. Cheers!
8/8/2018 3:09:00 PM - Thanks for posting on my message board! I suppose it's fitting that a 2016 Myriad GIII ended up being my 2,500 tasting note...since Mike Smith seems to occupy my TNs frequently enough. I'd definitely recommend trying to acquire the '16 GIII...The Empyrean is even more epic. THAT wine is unreal. I'll be posting a note on it here shortly. Happy hunting!
8/6/2018 12:14:00 PM - Hopefully Carter isn't sold-out of their Beckstoffer cabs by late October. As you probably know, the OG, GTO, and La Verdad are already sold-out. When we were there a couple weeks ago they said that they thought the LPV La Bam and Grand Daddy would probably sell-out fairly quickly as well. I would have preferred to wait until late Fall to taste the 2016 Carter cabs because they clearly need some time, however, it's getting harder to taste their wines since they sell-out so quickly. Hopefully Mike will still have some of the Quivet/Myriad cabs come late October as well because I know his 2016 cabs have been selling-out pretty quickly. Jeb Dunnuck's recent favorable reviews probably won't help either. The Vice Versa cabs are pretty expensive but clearly quality. I wish they had more cabs like the Le Petit Vice that are more reasonably priced. That should be a great tasting at Bevan - again, I look forward to your notes. Take care.
8/4/2018 6:38:00 AM - Ya, I'm in Ann Arbor. Those are some great wineries - I look forward to your thoughts. With the tasting at Envy are you tasting Mike Smith's Myriad/Quivet cabs or Carter? I was in Napa a couple weeks ago and tried to do a tasting with Janzen but Kyle Janzen was out of town that weekend. He's a really nice guy and gracious host. I'm sure you'll enjoy that tasting. I attended a private tasting of Vice Versa here in Michigan but I've never done a tasting with them in Napa. I really enjoy Melka's style of winemaking. I've also never done a tasting with Bevan but I love their wines. Although it sounds like you have a pretty full schedule, if you get a chance I would stop by Hall. In the past I've always thought their wines were really good but not great. However, I was really impressed with their 2015 cabs. From what I recall, the tasting was $40 but they allowed us to taste all their higher-end cabs which was a little surprising. In particular the 2015 Jack's Masterpiece and 2015 Diamond Mtn cab were quite good. Enjoy your trip. Once again, I look forward to your thoughts.
7/12/2018 6:59:00 PM - Paid a visit to see Nick at Old Woodward Cellars on your recommendation -- left with a six-pack, one of which (2014 Macauley Reserve Cab) I've posted a Tasting Note on tonight. Thanks for the tip, it's a fine store right in my backyard!
