8/26/2023 5:45:00 AM - Thank you for following! I truly enjoy reading your reviews :)
7/12/2023 6:30:00 PM - @MJP Hou TX: thanks for returning the favour!
4/26/2023 1:28:00 PM - I dont have your email, did you get 2019 or 2020 Chave Hermitage. Michel called me today about a freind a Houston
9/16/2022 7:50:00 AM - Hey MJP: did you get the text I sent you about a week ago re: my Houston trip?
9/15/2022 3:01:00 PM - Found a wine you will LOVE…2005 Malescot St Exupery. Amazin. Best wine in the last year. 09 & 10 will be amazing too and cheap around $120-$125.
9/6/2022 12:51:00 PM - Will do. I will be in touch soon.
9/5/2022 10:17:00 PM - Hi MJP - CSIMM isn't on this trip, just me and my wife. We expect to arrive Thur, Oct 20th and leave that Sun. Have a myriad of things scheduled, but would love to meet up if we can make it work.
8/22/2022 8:04:00 PM - Thanks for connecting as well! Question: I noticed you’ve tasted at MacDonald. I don’t see the standard “Visit the Winery” on their website. Thoughts on what is needed to setup a visit (other than just emailing them?) Wife and I are in Napa in October and we haven’t had a chance to try their wine… :(
8/13/2022 10:59:00 AM - Nice to meet you MJP. Let me know if you're ever headed to a wine event in Houston. One of my favorites, Iron Sommelier, is coming up in November.
8/12/2022 1:37:00 PM - MJP Hou TX -- thanks for reaching out. Always great to see someone from Houston on here. I'm relatively new to the city and always ready to meet people over a nice bottle. Cheers!
7/9/2022 4:57:00 PM - Read my review of 2016 Lewelling Cab. You won’t like this either. Similar to Outpost.
5/7/2022 10:15:00 AM - Hey MJP! Did you receive that email from Mayacamas yesterday? Thought you might be interested in the library verticals they're offering. Happy drinking!
4/8/2022 5:46:00 PM - I sent you an email earlier this week (to the correct email address I think haha) and was just wondering if you ever received it or if it landed in the spam folder. I'm also going to purchase a Baker & Hamilton this Monday!
4/3/2022 2:52:00 PM - I finally opened up a 2011 VHR...you were right....so lovely, I can't wait until I open up one of my 2018 or 2019 that I got to sit on for awhile.
2/20/2022 6:32:00 PM - Thanks for the follow. I appreciate your sharing your notes, we share a lot of the same wines and refer to your notes.
1/23/2022 2:31:00 PM - Likewise - thanks for the follow. I infer from your notes that we share a lot of the same wines in our cellar. I appreciate the comments on the Hourglass. I find I'm drinking up what I have there!
1/13/2022 2:07:00 PM - Hello and I was just wondering if you were interested in selling one of your '16 VHR's. I asked on the commerce corner on Wine Berserkers the same thing and no response. This would be for my future going away party next year and it's a dream wine of mine. Definitely hard to find, but thought I might as well ask someone on here. You seem to be the VHR expert on here too :). Sincerely, Daniel Walsh
12/30/2021 5:54:00 AM - Nice collection. Wish we were neighbors. ha. happy drinking.
12/8/2021 8:17:00 PM - Happy Holidays, wishing you and yours joy and good health into the New Year!!
9/30/2021 8:48:00 AM - MJP Hou TX regarding my Outpost Cabs…Contacted BWG and they said my 19 bottles of Outpost& Quivet wines wasn’t a big enough amount for them to bid on. Huh??? I sent my list to Vinfolio but haven’t heard back from them yet. I think you have more Outpostwine than me so maybe BWG will give you an offer? Good luck.
9/25/2021 7:37:00 PM - Hi MJP, We have not formally met, and I am going out on a limb here, so sorry if I offend an way, but I am planning a trip to Napa in December, and was hoping I could convince you to make an introduction for me to a couple wineries out there, namely Abreu and VHR. My email is :jmponfil@gmail.com, if you would prefer to take this off CT. Thank you for your consideration! I look forward to continued reading of your notes!
9/8/2021 7:15:00 PM - I'm probably honestly in the same boat with the Futo, I'll see how pricing looks and decide from there as well. But I will say the 2019 Vice Versa wines blew me away, if its crept up near the Mag 7 pricing, that'll be a tough sell for me. Also glad to share the love on the Allbaer. I will say, the tiny production of 2018 Petite Sirah is a great wine and great start for him (especially knowing that its all 1 barrel and he had no ability to blend anything in), but the 2019 Sangiovese and 2019 Grenache are incredible wines, a complete notch above the 2018 even.
9/7/2021 3:31:00 PM - Thanks for the comment, you've literally caught me in the same internal thought processes. I got the email about the release too and am also wavering on whether to buy or not... Especially with so many newer producers that are hitting the ground this Fall/Spring with some really impressive teams behind the helm. My issue is the bottle I just opened was great but didn't impress me as much as I anticipated (even though I rated at a 99, I wanted a 100 haha). A good chunk of my purchases often have ties or connections to the producers or wine/vineyard itself in a memory or friendship sense (the perks of being local) and Futo just doesn't happen to have that so I always am hit or miss on whether I buy. I believe wine is pleasure of the senses, but also a sense of place and meaning and love when it has both. The wines I buy blind I'm incredibly picky about, or have to have a really cool story. Though, you may have realized, I really only score wines I really enjoyed or felt deserved/needed a score and I did rate that Futo bottle recently, so maybe I should buy. Haha ugh... decisions, decisions. I think the new Impensata wines will likely be in the Futo price range so that will be interesting competition in my purchasing if so. Welcome into my thought processes...I guess I'll just have to see how I feel when I get the release email.
8/28/2021 10:45:00 AM - Glad to share the experience and thoughts. Lots of impressive new producers popping up with the ‘18 vintage. Hope you have a good weekend!
8/27/2021 8:05:00 PM - Saw you were interested in Almacerro, tasted up on the property this week. It was quite good, restrained, as FP is known for, which comes out as a really unique wine amongst its Howell Mountain peers. Posted some short tasting notes. The view was absolutely incredible...and I've been all over the valleys and mountains of Italy and California. This view was really quite something, just breathtaking to look out into the distance with a glass of wine in hand. Also, if you're interested in Impensata, check out the Grazie a Voi special bottling that Acme in St. Helena has. Basically a trial run of a "psuedo" first vintage. And a pretty cool endeavor and story at that as well, great cause to support. Same vineyard and team that Impensata will utilize.
8/9/2021 9:30:00 AM - MJP - all those labels are ALSO on my radar, further complicating things! Hope some of them don't price me out, so may need to pick and choose a little. One other release to put on your list is Cornell is doing a 2018 extended age as well (I think they are calling it Commitment). I've had a few Kapscandy wines, but mostly the 2nd bottlings or cuvees, not the upper tier. Definitely more old world in style for Napa, but recommended.
8/3/2021 10:39:00 AM - MJP - curious on some upcoming releases and what you are looking to purchase. I just got an offer for a Promontory Penultimate vertical, La Pelle and Pulido Walker just released today. Have you bought these in the past or have an experience with these wines? I am budget conscious entering prime fall releases but I am trying to branch out to try a few new labels each year and wanted your thoughts. Thanks!
7/7/2021 4:32:00 PM - So we aren't bombarding the comments sections of these TNs, my email is bsumoba at gmail dot com. Or I can send you my number to text.
6/28/2021 9:21:00 AM - Haven't tasted yet, though I had the '18 Arkenstone Heimark recently - which was the best in the Ark lineup of all the wines I thought. So there's that :)
6/28/2021 8:51:00 AM - Thanks MJP. I'm familiar with the players and the affiliations with others in the Valley we know and love.... and saw Galloni's write-ups. Another new Napa house pops up, eh?! Heimark is another similar.
6/28/2021 7:26:00 AM - Thanks for the heads up MJP!
6/28/2021 6:11:00 AM - Thanks for the heads up. I saw the Kinsmans endorsing it on instagram as well. No brainer! So my new purchases this year will be Almacerro, Impensata, Bella Oaks, Vida Valiente, Bergman.... the list continues to grow!
6/27/2021 8:07:00 PM - Hey MJP - Thanks for the tip. I also saw an endorsement from the Kinsman folks, so kind of a no brainer. In terms of mountain appellations, Howell is second only to Pritchard Hill for me - so, should be good. Thanks again!
6/27/2021 6:47:00 PM - Dammit man.. if you say it, OF COURSE I'M SIGNING UP! I hate you and I say that with love -_- I hope this doesn't disappoint! I love your picture btw! It's such a good family photo! (sheesh I hear a kid is like having an additional mortgage these days lol)
6/27/2021 6:31:00 PM - Just signed up. I like Howell Mountain. Wait...I like Napa mountain fruit in general. Thanks for the heads up
5/6/2021 10:16:00 AM - Thanks for the advice. I picked up a 3 pack of the 19'. My son's birth year is going to have some crazy wines. At least he got a decent vintage. I might even try to find an 18' out in the market to give that a try in a few years.
5/6/2021 9:28:00 AM - Bsumoba, I'm a fan of J Daniel Cuvee. Futures pricing is/was hard to pass up for 18 and I'll be picking up 19 as well even with the price increase. Honestly one of my favorite Melka blended wines. The sites theses grapes are sourced from are high quality and the price is in line with Napa.
5/6/2021 9:19:00 AM - Hey MJP - Allocation for 19' Lail is up. What do you think? I noticed you got the 18' and the 19' vintage is shaping up to be a good one as well.
3/22/2021 12:27:00 PM - Thanks Mark! My beautiful wife is doing all the heavy lifting.
3/22/2021 9:49:00 AM - Great family pic, Michael! Well done!
11/9/2020 11:29:00 AM - 2015 Beausejour Becot is at Laguna Cellars in Irvine CA. $68...A steal.
9/20/2020 10:49:00 AM - MJP - Please send me your details offline (jgrunlan@gmail.com). Perhaps we can set up a Zoom wine tasting. I've done them with MARK1NPT and ROCKYII.
4/1/2020 11:54:00 AM - Hi Micheal, Hard to pick only one Rhone wine label. I actually have wine from 50 producers in my cellar. If I had to pick only one it would probably be Beaucastel or Janasse. Also enjoy several Rhone blend domestic wine from Carlisle and Tablas Creek (especially white varieties). I actually have a winter place in Rockport that is being rebuilt after Hurricane Harvey. Stay safe.
3/31/2020 1:56:00 PM - Likewise , MJP! Keep drinking fine wines and share your notes. we have similar tastes! Cheers !

2021 Bedrock Wine Co. Bedrock Vineyard Heritage
4/21/2024 - MJP Hou TX Likes this wine: 93 Points
It nice to have these Heritage bottles in 375 format when not looking to pull a 750. With regards to the wine, this is drinking really well. A balanced zin blend with nice acid that just over delivers on QPR. Easy drinking and firing right out of the gate.
Drink or hold.

2020 Château Tour Saint-Christophe
4/21/2024 - MJP Hou TX Likes this wine: 93 Points
At PNP this was a bit closed and shut down. On day two this was youthful yet approachable. It's hard not to reach for cellar defenders knowing time in the bottle will reward.
A great value now but even more so in the future.
Drink or hold.

Pinot trying to pass as cabernet. A bit heavy handed yet efficient at washing down French lamb chops.
