  • 2012 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Opened and drunk with only 15 mins to warm up. Dense and a little dumb which was expected. Still able to detect tobacco, vanilla, and black cherry. The wine was too big for my 2 friends to finish so I corked it again. Opened the next day and it was fabulous, rich, creamy, velvety soft, with a multitude of flavor. Very much "back to form" Beaucastel. I would enjoy this wine every year up to around 2020. Probably could go longer, but I like Beaucastel relatively young.

  • 2002 Château d'Yquem

Overchilled so allowed to warm up for fifteen minutes. A little dumb as so cold and could only stare at it with wanton lust. A transparent hue, this one is for the long haul in terms of aging. Slowly, this juggernaut starts to move, offering scents of plasticine reminiscent from the yellow macintosh we wore in the 70's. Ripples of citrus fruit start to dance around my nose tantalizing me before running off to hide. Then she reveals herself again, only this time performing like Salma Hayek's belly dance in “Dusk till Dawn”. Her cobra spits out the flavors of butterscotch, fine meringue, apricots, peach and oloroso, anchored by subliminal acidity. The botrytis is almost undermined by a tannic substructure that I have not encountered before. This is a seriously sensual Y`quem.
A tidal wave of rich, ripe fruit engulfs the senses. Oak, walnut, honey, marzipan, apple, and mangos. Impeccably balanced, this is a Marlene Dietrich of a wine, a true femme fatale

5/4/2016 2:44:00 AM - Sorry about the page. We just checked at http://buzzzzoff.com. Seems to work. We did the entire D'Yquem tour, and we were over-impressed. These people deserve every Euro they charge because the passion, time, effort, love and end product quite simply define why we enjoy wine. Heck, we are not even dessert wine fans...nevertheless, they rock. We join you with all your favs, particularly Sassicaia (as you know) and Salon (we sip a 1997 every year to celebrate our anniversary...yes, we broke the bank and bought a few decades for our cellar after sipping this stunner during a visit to Salon). We have not tried Calera Jensen, but we have heard good things. Have you tried the Gusbourne Estate Chardonnay from Kent? An English Chablis that is darn-tooting good!
