  • 2019 Weingut Sven Nieger Riesling Ungeschminkt trocken

No bells or whistles on this little beauty but given the name of the wine, I think that is exactly the point. Although certainly not very complex, it is incredibly vibrant, pure and zesty and the stony, slightly saline finish lingers on and on. The acidity and minerality admittedly might be a bit much for some but I have to say that I really enjoyed this.

    APPEARANCE:
    Color & intensity: medium lemon

    NOSE:
    Intensity: medium (+)
Aromas: lemon, crushed stone, acacia blossom, lime, lemon zest, hints of salt and petrol
    Development: developing

    PALATE:
    Sweetness: dry
    Acidity: high
    Alcohol: medium
    Body: medium
    Intensity: medium (+)
Flavors: lemon, lemon zest, green apple, crushed stone, hint of salt
    Finish: long

    CONCLUSIONS:
    Quality level: very good
Potential for ageing: can drink now but has good potential for some further ageing

It starts off incredibly floral on the nose but a bit of patience reveals a great deal of complexity. The palate is beautifully fresh and vibrant with fantastic intensity and balance. Lovely, lengthy finish that ends on a slightly smoky, saline note.

Organic & biodynamic. The nose is deceptively delicate (but enticing!) when compared to the palate, which is quite intense and vibrant. Beautiful balance and a crazy long finish. Really lovely. This still has a gloriously long life ahead of it (at least another 3-5 years, if not more) so no rush to drink up.

    APPEARANCE:
    Color & intensity: pale gold

    NOSE:
    Intensity: medium
Aromas: nectarine, toasted sesame seeds, mandarin orange, toasted almond, yellow apple, touch of baking spices & eucalyptus
