  • 1995 Château Batailley

Drank over 2 days with grilled lamb and rip-eye. Ruby garnet with slight bricking at the rim. Pnp with a somewhat funky nose. Over the course of the evening the barnyard notes gave way to earthy and leather aromas with very slight hints of dark fruits. Earthy and herbal notes (green pepper) on the palate. Medium Body ( with some aeration) with resolved tannins. Still decent acidity which provided a sense of structure and freshness. Medium finish with slightly tart and green aftertaste. The wine „mellowed“ overnight. Red fruit notes emerged on nose and palate, cigar box and a whiff of cedar. Gained slightly in body and delivered a longer finish. Very nice aftertaste. Greenness completely gone and supplanted by spicy tastes and - crazy as it may sound - long lasting notes of Candy Apples. Maybe I had one too many ;-) At the age of 26 a very nicely aged and enjoyable claret. Color 5/5 Nose 12/15 Palate 17/20 Je ne sais quoi 8/10. 92P

  • 2015 Knipser Blauer Spätburgunder Trocken

This was utterly disappointing. Bad Bottle? Translucent garnet with waterly rim. No fruit neither on nose nor palate. If anything green notes on the palate. Thin, no balance, acidity and not much more. It did not improve over 2 hours. Some strawberry on the finish which did not save the drinking experience. Colour:3/5 N: 7/15 P: 10/20 Jnsq:5/10. 75P.

  • 2017 Vite Colte Barbera d'Asti Superiore La Luna e i Falò

Drunk over 2 days. Second day was better. Ruby with violet rim. Nose with dark cherries, slightly herbal notes and licorice (2nd day). On the palate dark cherries, licorice and black pepper. Medium to full body. High acidity, a bit too high i.e. sharp on the first day (maybe accentuated by tomato sauce on the pizza I had for dinner). Better balanced with fruit , Alkohol (ABV 14,5 but not hot) and the few present tannins on the second day. Markedly improved mouthfeel. Short fruity finish with a pinch a black pepper. Dry, fresh not too complex wine. Colour:5/5 Nose:12/15 Palate:16/20 Jnsq:7/10. 90P.
