Not really incredibly compelling, but has a smooth structure... the black currant of the Syrah is evident. Harmonious at this point, I don't think it will fare well more than another year or year and a half. Feels modern rather than the rustic, soil-driven aspect I hope to find in Italy--a sense of place.

Seems to be bottle variation issues on this offering from Rimmerman. I opened mine and was dismayed to find all the fruit gone at this point. I do tend to hold my wines to the end of the drinking window, and this was stated 2014-17+. I usually have no problems doing this with a Bordeaux or Burgundy into the 6-7 year range from date on bottle, but this one while not undrinkable, was not really pleasant or showing right. Tasted all tannin and no fruit. One note. Tried again day 2 to same effect. Went back and read the offer from Garagiste and in retrospect, probably should not have purchased as damning with faint praise.
Right out of the bottle, you can tell this is a Growers Estate type of champagne instead of the big houses. I really appreciate the vitality and youthful exuberance. This has a very crisp and lean style with vibrant acidity. Not getting a lot of yeast or bread, but has lots of minerality, stone, lime pith and is a very pale straw yellow. So, while not a fat champagne for lobster or soft cheeses, bring on the oysters! Could age a long while but I decided to try one of 3 purchased in 2017. Will hold others for development as this one os a bit youthful and coltish.

10/20/2020 10:59:00 AM - I spent 1988-2003 completely focused on writing poetry. The Paris Review Prize was my grabbing the brass ring. That, and coming in as runner up manuscript in the Yale Series of Younger poets which was my dream first publication. lol. I was very ambitious back then, but life events seem to have taken over writing. I married very late and now have a 3 year old. Not much time for poetry, but I do think I am not done with it. The voice never goes away no matter how much you ignore it. I wrote 3 full length manuscripts in my 20s and 30s before the Paris Review Prize, which was my fourth manuscript, but first book publication. I worked as a wine store manager 2004-2010. Now I'm working as a rep for Western Wine Merchants. Good luck with your writing...and wine! Cheers.
10/19/2020 10:03:00 AM - Do you still write/publish? My life has been devoted to wine and poetry since 2010. 4am writing schedule before my winemaking job for 8 years, harvests included...
