BOURGOGNE: Overall, following a challenging vintage, we are happy with the quality of the grapes we have been able to harvest this year. The resulting juices, now fermenting, are showing promise that they will develop into good and in some cases very good wines. At Louis Jadot we are lucky to have a skilful team both in the vineyard and the winery, which allows us to approach variable vintages, such as this one, with some confidence. 2010 has been an unpredictable year in Burgundy. The winter was very long and cold resulting in late bud-burst compared to the past five years. Flowering was disrupted by heat and rain. We had to wait until the end of June before we received some healthy sun which brought life to the vines. During the first four months of the year we had to give a great deal of attention to the vines in order to avoid mildew. Frosts, uneven flowering and some fungal diseases contributed to thinning the crop.

- Winemaking
-
The harvest is manual in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then carefully sorted by hand and then destemmed. The grapes are macerated in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are punched twice a day during fermentation.

Vintage quality: Excellent
Current condition: Ready to drink, will keep
The 2010 vintage for Burgundy was extremely good.
A harsh winter saw heavy frosts damage vines and conditions failed to improve much in both spring and early summer. A cool, damp June made flowering difficult and concerns around rot and mildew raised the...
