Château Haut-Brion is the only wine to be both First Growth from the 1855 classification and Classified Growth of the Graves.

Producer Tasting Notes: The wine is very aromatic and harmonious with incredibly mellowed tannins and quite low acidity. It It is a powerful wine, yet at the same time one with plenty of subtlety and harmony. Through its structure and smoothness, this wine is reminiscent of 1959 both in terms of the weather and the volume of the harvest.

Perhaps all I need to say is, Heart-stopping! From start to finish, this is off the charts. Power, concentration, elegance, refinement, length and complexity is here in spades. 1989 Vintage Tasted: Nov 2018

Medium crimson garnet, ochre reflections, broader brightening on the rim. Spicy nuances, fine nougat, ripe red jam, hints of blackberry and cherry. Powerful and complex, firm tannins, juicy and pronounced in fruit texture, chocolaty touch and fine minerality on the finish, shows great length and balance. Further ageing potential. One of the great wine monuments from Bordeaux.

1989 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2000

(2000) Also extremely dark, with just a little ruby at the rim. Fantastic nose, just fantastic. Lots os sweet, toasty oak but layered with earthy black fruits, truffle, woodsmoke and little glimpses of exotic spices, briary wood and cedar. This is a real show-stopper. Superb sweetness and complexity on the palate, with a little burnt caramel note, silky, glycerine-rich texture and fine concentration and complexity. Acidity and fine tannins really make their presence felt into the finish which is extraordinarily long. Possibly my wine of the night. I last tasted this just two months ago with very consistent notes.
