Third Growth. Troisieme Grand Cru Classe in 1855.
Vineyard notes: "The nature of Château Palmer. In the heart of the Margaux appellation, 66 hectares of gravelly soil and grassy rows overlooking the Gironde estuary. Between this earth rich in ancient history, and these heavenly skies with their nurturing microclimate, vines flourish under the care of men and women. One terroir, three grape varieties: such is the horizon of Château Palmer."

- Vintage Notes

1970 is a very demonstrative vintage. A cold, rainy spring delayed the appearance of vegetation until April 14th. From then on, the vines benefited from ideal climatic conditions, with a beautiful month of June. Flowering occurred under excellent circumstances and the vineyard was beautiful. Not a single drop of rain fell in July. Severe thunderstorms in August accelerated the ripening process, which came to an end on 26th. The hot weather in September allowed for optimal maturity and excellent concentration. Picking began on the 26th. These conditions, close to perfection, produced a remarkable wine, which is often considered as one of the greatest between 1961 and 1982.

Vintage quality: Legendary
Current condition: Likely past it
The 1970 vintage for Bordeaux was extremely good, some would even say legendary.
The growing season began with a long, cold winter and icy conditions continued into the spring, but fortunately warmed up enough to allow for both a good budburst and flowering. The sum...
