The roller-coaster temperature fluctuations of the 2000 growing season extended harvest into November for many vintners, resulting in both physical and mental fatigue for vineyard and production crews. Grapes on the western-facing, steeply-sloped Backus parcel achieved optimal ripeness within a relatively brief period of time, producing a wine with luscious, ripe fruit flavors, concentrated aromas of black fruit, cinnamon and spice, and supple tannins with hints of cassis, spice and coffee on the palate. We believe the wine from this "cru" vineyard will easily rank among the top Cabernets of the vintage.

The weather was initially good with a warm, dry spring however excessive heat struck in June destroying some of the harvest. A warm September helped to fully ripen Merlot and provided ideal conditions...
