Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 92.2 points

  • Deep purple youthful colour with a nose of licorice, olives, plums and hunter earthiness. Velvety mouthfeel with more of the same, rich and spicy but with enough tannin and acidity to keep it fresh and lively. This is really good. This is the fourth or fifth bottle I have enjoyed and the recent development of the licorice note is mildly exotic and a huge positive. I suspect this wine will be something very special with more age. Hence I have gone long on this one. Day 2 a small taste remains. More pronounced green olive is Rhone like and with lifted volatility more evident.

  • Subdued nose of dark, charred oak, with hints of raspberry and mint. Palate shows concentrated (almost cordial-like) flavours of raspberry, blackberry, and bay leaf, finishing with notes of char and smoke. Tannin feels huge (and provides a touch of bitterness to balance the intensity of the fruit), but also feels broad and soft.

  • Appearance: purple core, ruby rim. Still very young. Nose: blackberries, plums, black cherries, sweet oak, pepper, olives and earth. Palate: medium bodied, lots of pepper and spice as expected for a HV shiraz. Acidity is restrained, tannins are smooth. It is drinking well now but still fruit forward. Has a nice harmony. Looking forward to trying the rest of the case as it ages.

  • I tried this shortly after bottling and it was superb. This is still very good, but has lost some of the sexy young fruit that 2014s showed off early. Will live a long life from here. Very easy drinking. 92+

  • Whistestop Hunter tour (Hunter Valley): Ripe sweet plums, peppery spice, cedar, slight vanilla. Juicy and spicy, like the 2013 but the fruit is far riper. Taninns are tight, grippy and slightly gritty textured. Finishes a little alcoholically warm. Hmm.
