Opened one hour in advance. Rich aroma of twiggy black fruit and sage. Robust flavors of blackberry, licorice and a hint of vanilla. Mellow (by comparison) finish shows raspberry notes. Muscular but balanced, strong backbone, great staying power. Outstandin.

My final bottle still needed 1 hour of air. After that, it was fully mature and ready to go. I don't mean to imply that the wine needs more aging, but rather it just needs the air for everything to come together.
Paired nicely with a one-pan skillet of smoked sausage, potato, onion, and green beans.
Drink now with a 1 hour decant. Watch out for sediment.

Forward, fresh boysenberry fruit with hints of wood smoke and rocks. The structure is almost perfect with core acids and fine tannins lending length. The alcohol adds unneeded weight and does muddle the finish at times. But overall this is quite nice. Anyone would be hard pressed to put this on ten years old blind.

-- decanted for 30 min. prior to initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --
NOSE: red licorice; medium-light stony mineral; hint of sweet balsamic; medium+ expressiveness.
BODY: dark garnet color of great depth; medium-full bodied.
TASTE: ripe, non-descript, red fruits; not quite gloppy/overblown, but it does seem a bit bigger than its 14.1% alc. would suggest; anthracite; medium-light stony mineral note from the Nose is reflected onto the palate. Gut impression score: 88 - 90.

This bottle seems parching and grumpy tonight.
