  • 9.5% abv, AP 06, $40. NOSE: golden-hour, Meursault-salty, and generally to the warmer end of the spectrum. Buried bronze stones; Red Delicious apple skins; a forest clearing, serenaded by a craggy waterfall; Almazan Kitchen. MOUTH: big, rich, chewy glycerin, born aloft by green stabs of salt. Black, oily stone forms a cradle for giggling amber orbs of serious juice. Fleshy. FINISH: For all its flesh, there’s a tense grip of lime, stone grit, and herb oil that completes and solidifies the frame. Pay attention to all of that, and then you can find yourself surprised by the next drink, with it’s open, golden, warmth. Watching one morph into the other represents an extreme form of cognitive drinkability. 94+ points.

  • Lovely light spritz. Ripe peach and citrus. All too easy to gulp. I may be under-rating this. Honestly, I could drink this all day.

  • AP 06 20. Really sensational Spätlese! I've been really impressed with the 2019 vintage in Germany and it was a pleasant surprise to find several offerings from this small vintner being sold locally. First time I've seen them make a Prädikat wine from the Sonnenlay so I'm not familiar with the usual flavor profile of this vinyard. Compares quite well to W-K's banner offerings from the Ellergrub.

Quite ripe for a Spätlese, but the power and richness comes through not so much from the fruit—although it is fairly sweet—but from the density of the flinty, mineral notes. Some spontaneous fermentation as well which remind me of young Prüm wines. Brilliant acids as well. Beautifully integrated at this point and will only get better once it settles down a bit.

Excellent wine and I can't wait to try more from this grower!
