BN fill, cork in great condition, excellent color. Shows a lot of raisiny character on the nose, with balsamic, beef bouillon, tobacco leaf and herbal notes. Develops complexity with air, but definitely at the end of its life. Tart, cranberry finish with good acidity and little tannin. This was tasted after the much more effusive '80 SLV Cab, and suffered for being second in the lineup, but I enjoyed it a lot more than others at the table.
1980 is my year of birth and this Tignanello, which was a gift from my friends, my first wine ever from this vintage. Why did it take me so long? Well, 1980 has a rather paltry reputation for most european wine-regions. However, even without rose-coloured glasses this old nobleman from Tuscany was still lovely. Almost a black hue with only a tiny brown rim. On the nose this was completely tertiary with no fruit but a very distinctive smell of coffee and sweet caramel. In the mouth the wine started a bit flat but within short time clinged back to life, gaining in substance, lift and sweetness. Light- to medium-bodied and with a very soft texture, it was drinking highly elegant and did not deteriorate while we finished the bottle. Subjectively this was a perfect wine-experience, objectively it could not be, hence no rating this time.

Drank 12/27/2029. Definitely over the hill. If you have any drink now. Body was light, very little aroma left. Some residual notes of black pepper which disappeared with an hour.

PnP. Lovely mature CS dominated bouquet. Delicious and polished palate with fine acidity. Performed well throughout the whole 4-hour dinner.

Faded too far. Not faulty, just old.
