Gentle, soft, beautifully alluring nose of truffles, chestnut mushrooms, figs, raisins, dates, toffee. Surprisingly powerful and sweet. So dark it looks like an old red Burgundy. This is a multi-dimensional wine that really expressively and convincingly shows the importance and potential of Chenin Blanc - it seems immortal on this showing. This wine is 74 years old! I don't think it's even on the decline, so I'll give it a century in longevity. I've heard stories that this can last that long. The story goes on and on: orange marmalade (the old-fashioned type with big chunks of peel), cloves, fresh ginger and *such* sweetness: lip-smacking, tongue-twirling juiciness. A wonderful privilege to taste this. Real length and depth - life, vigour and perfect integrity. An utter joy.

Tasted during the Huet Wine-Degustation dinner at Harald Wohlfahrt's Schwarzwaldstube in the Traube Tonbach mahogany -colored, not unlike an aged amontillado sherry with an aroma to go along. Very fine, exquisite and quite reticent; smell of polishing wax with signs of age. On palate very intense; more interesting than elegant. Very Long Finish. An unbending old aristocrat...

Very dark brown rather than gold. A wow nose, no doubting the quality, this is complex and alive. Wonderful balance, acidity, toastiness, a wine to linger long over.
