At first I confused this wine with Les Plôs de Baumes and thought I was drinking an Aupilhac Bordeaux blend but on looking it up I see that Le Clos is a blend of Mourvèdre 40%, Carignan 40% & Syrah 20%. Not so dumb, however, because there is something reminiscent of a mature Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bx blend in this dark coloured, quite full bodied but elegant wine with cassis type fruit, a musky note, quite velvety texture, still good acidity and solid fiinsh with ripe tannins. Only the warm and generous undertow and absence of a stiffer backbone suggested the Mediterranean. Not a suspicion of heaviness or cloying here. Aupilhac is one of my favourite Languedoc estates. Very Good.
