Good but not great. Too much oak on the wine for my taste, plus the flavor profile was relatively generic. Didn't scream sangiovese to me, but had some fleeting moments of typicity on day 2. Decanted for 2 hours on day 1, which didn't do much, then enjoyed the remainder of the bottle over the following two days. Overall a decent drink, but you get the feeling this could have been a lot better.

Friday Night at Dave's Place: This pours medium garnet in the glass with an orange rim. The nose is expressive showing light rubbery reduction, rose petal, tar, dried orange peel, dark cherry, and black licorice. The palate is quite clamped and firmly tannic. Acid is medium plus as is the tannin. The finish closes on tar and licorice with some bitterness while the structure clips the length a little here. All in all this felt quite unevolved and really only just showing a little of whats to come here. No fear of any premature aging, this could really use another ten years in my view.

This bottle disappointed. Too much oak. This wasn't a dumb phase because there just wasn't a foundation of beautiful Sangiovese fruit or terroir. Perhaps 10+ years of tertiary development could replace the oak and make something new, but I personally wouldn't allocate the cellar space. I'm still rating this drinkable wine an 88. My disappointment relates to price and hype.

Great on opening, better after 60+ minutes of air. Drink now with decant or hold.
