This is probably my best experience with this bottling from Antinori. The previous ones were either damaged or too youthful and too much power. This one seems to be in the sweet spot, got some warm Black Forest cake, cherry, plums, cocoa powder and touch of herbs/green. Complex stuff. Thought this a Sangiovese but the depth of the core probably plus the age probably should have pointed to a cab. This can last while longer still.

Same bottle as Melvin. Disagree with his note, I am more in agreement with NickA’s note on this wine. Drinking beautifully now but with a very Tuscan touch.

Very nice, but this bottle definitely well past its peak. Fruit, tannins, acidity all present, but flavours very secondary - a little tart on the finish.

Looks, smells and tastes so much younger than the '05 and '09 Sangioveses had this evening. Remarkable. The autumn mulch I like so much: leaves underfoot, earth and wet soil. Truffles, cocoa dustings, plum and berry compote. Toffee apple. Toasty and caramelly. Just gorgeous.

Boxing day at Caroline's: From magnum. Lots of bricking; tertiary and resolved sweet fruit. No greenness so guessed late ‘80s Sangiovese.
