  The cork was dry and crumbled on extraction. Dark garnet colored with a slight brownish tinge settling in suggesting this may be passing its apex, complex, concentrated, tight, structured blackberry and black currant and plum fruits with predominate notes of smoke, with tones of tobacco, black tea, herbs, cassis and hints of black pepper turning to a long firm tannin finish.

  Medium purple-red color with some sediment thrown. Nose of spicy red and black fruits. Rich taste of blackberry, gooseberry, tart red currant, wet stone. Solid tannic structure despite its age. Plenty of life left in this lovely Daniel Baron joint, one of the great California merlots.

  What a pleasant surprise! The wine is full of fresh dark berries and plums with a hint of sweet tobacco. The intensity is unusually high for a Twomey Merlot and yet there is a plushness to it. Color is deep red, no orange yet. If you have it, drink it!
