  • Drinking with Dressner (Act II) (Le Caveau, Chamblee, GA): Still very youthful and primary, with a fair bit of tannin, but delicious nonetheless.

  • Whoa - what a find. In the interests of keeping my cellar "current" - I trawled through it at the weekend and filled a case for current drinking. Without much thought, I opened this for a midweek pasta dinner with a procuitto/mushroom cream sauce.

Did not decant, poured half for tomorrow and pretty much had at it. This is a spectacular wine for $10 (going rate for this back in 2002). Deep in colour, with lots going on. Some dark cherry, blackberry fruit, but also lots of menthol, smoke, garrigue. Really smooth and rounded on the palare but with juicy acidity and a warm blackberry, red cherry jam flavour, some heat but also a nice peppery flavour that lasted - very decent finish. The sort of wine you don't want to finish drinking because it gets better and better with every sip.

This would stand up well to most CndP. Excellent wine and drinking very well right now. Hope my other 1998-2001 Rhone experiments turn out half as good as this one. The prior vintage of this got a WS 94 - I can understand why.

  • Med dark ruby, aromas of plum, blackberry, scorched earth, b3+, a3, t3+, thick, smoky fruit, plenty of structure, fine rustic tannins on finish, big, slightly hot, very serviceable, d2, big, slightly hot but not bad, earth, mineral, black fruit, toasty oak, rich & round satiny texture, bright red perfumed berry, tannins turn very fine & velvety, perfect sweet/tart balance now (6-7!), touch of mint, tobacco, fruit really sings now, luscious last sip = best! (8+)
