Weekly tasting group #076; 3x Geantet-Pansiot + 12 Bordeaux (@ VD): Beautiful bouquet with cassis, cedar and some barnyard. Also on the palate it is a pleasure with red fruits, some green bell peppers, firm but good acidity, still sticky tannin and some white pepper in the finish. Really a pleasant surprise considering the price. Ready now and the next few years.

Deep ruby, really quite dense. Good clarety nose of dusty blackcurrant, graphite and a touch of mulberry. Fleshy and ripe but very well balanced by a mineral character. Crisp and refreshing, this is showing surprisingly well. Decent length too. ***

Great stuff for a modest price - this is what Bordeaux is good at. A bit of age brings out the secondary elements and this wine is in a nice place right now - sweet fruit with dashes of complexity and enough balance to make this either a food wine or one that stands alone quite happily for a glass or three on its own. I've added a few bottles of recent vintages based upon this year and the realistic price.

A beautiful example of an aged St Estephe that is at its peak of drinking right now. Orange rim, beautifullly resolved colour. On the nose liquorice and mushrooms, damp earth. In the mouth sweet fruit, tangy berries, cedar, dry dusty tannins, notes of bitter chocolate powder. Great secondary characteristics coming through - smooth, pleasant, medium bodied. Excellent. Bordeaux as it should be.

Decent depth and character, nicely aged and pretty. A bit simple but great for the price.
