  • Didn't take any notes on this when I initially opened it, but my sense is that it might have been at its best then. 2 hours after opening (no decant) - hard for me to pick out the nose - dark red fruits, a hint of green but very much in the background. Something that reminds me a bit of boiled sweet corn. All that comes through to the palate along with some cassis; comes across as nicely balanced with a rich mouth feel. As this sits in the glass, an increasing sense of chalky minerality and more obvious tannins. Very nice, and certainly holding up well beyond the 2006 "drink by" date suggested by WS. I wouldn't be happy with this at full price ($93 release according to Tanzer), but a nice QPR @ $30 via auction. Drink now - 2013.

  • Very dark. Oozing with dark fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, tar and rubber notes. Full-bodied with firm tannins and very long delicious aftertaste.

  • No dtl'd notes. To the cabin for annual ER outing. Noticeably more vegetal than the other offerings opened, with green pepper on both nose and palate. More time might help.

  • Just as good the next night with leftovers. Decanted for a couple of hours this time, and it opened up a little bit more, it was very nice. A keeper.

  • Had this with tenderloin, a vegetable galette and roasted potatoes. This was my "hold card" on a night with four silver oaks (93 & 98), and by far was the wine of the night. Much more balanced then the SO, I wish I had decanted it to let it breathe a little bit, but it was fabulous with the food, as well as on its own.
