The tannins are present, but soft and round. There is chocolate and blueberry. But it is out of joint, and a lot of manipulation is sticking out and making itself conspicuous.

Aromas of pencil shavings and plum. Similar flavors on the palate with a smokey aspect. Very dry on the palate which I like, but body is a bit thin and the finish falls short. ($12)

Gorgeous deep violet color. A nose that needs a little warmth to unlock. Once it's there it has plenty of dark cherries and oak. Good taste and balance but a little light on anything other than fruit. Finishes quick. Good QPR.

(Charles Smith Wines The Velvet Devil Merlot Washington State) Loaded with oak aromas, notably vanilla and spice. Silky, oak dominated flavors. Simple but enjoyable. A lot of fruit but the oak gets in the way. Fruit is 44% Milbrandt Vineyards (Wahluke Slope), 36% Alder Ridge (Horse Heaven Hills), 20% Yakima Valley. 13.8% alcohol. Purchased from Pete’s Bellevue for $13.

Still perfectly drinkable. A great value that has held up well.
