Such a lovely, perfumed floral spirit. Rich berry and cassis fruit. Powerful yet light on its feet, gliding across the palate. Supreme balance and length that just keeps on coming.

This is a ripe Nacional, with loads of blood plum, ripe berry and licorice aromas and flavours. With air you get the perfume of violets. It is sweet and luscious, supremely youthful and beautifully balanced. Waves of flavour lap around the gums and the finish is lifted by gorgeously floral spirit.

Looks a little older than the standard 2000 which some reddening at the rim. Nose is very spicy and floral with cloves and cinnamon. Still plenty of tannin here, nice grip to it, dark cherry, savoury and meaty with dark chocolate - you know the stuff with incredibly high cocoa content that you only need a little of - with liquorice. Long finish, very young, needs years but lots to enjoy now.

Wine Group Dinner #169 - 2005 Bordeaux Part 2 (Urbane Restaurant, Brisbane): Wine Group Dinner #169, Urbane Restaurant. The 2000 Nacional has a dense dark crimson colour and a rich nose of raspberry, dark cherries, creme de cassis, lavender, dark chocolate and aged cognac. The palate is rich and satisfying with plenty of presence and length. It lacks the spice and citrus I've tasted in older examples but the primary fruit and structure evident tonight was just delicious !
