Quite rare occasion to taste Cali Syrah and especially if served blind. Felt like old world with its earthy, smoky blackberry aroma filled with cold cuts, char and cherry. Went for Northern Rhone pretty confidently and was pretty shellshocked to see a Cali Syrah. I enjoyed it from start to end, it showed deep ruby colour with medium body, complex and fresh with juicy and chewy black fruit flavours with smoky and meaty edges. Loved the rich and refined tannins still yet to develop.

Still pretty rough tannins, lighter body than expected. Nose w dark cherry, brambles, black pepper and some gunpowder. Palate is not terribly complex but well balanced and lingers nicely w more dark berries and a little licorice, violets and nice balance. This is the least I'd expect from a wine in this price range...tastes like a Rhone wine, has some aging potential still, but I think I prefer to spend the same on a French wine and get more of everything, probably including cellaring potential.

A nice Syrah. Le Pousseur is about my favorite Bonny Doon Syrah. This is a good vintage.
