One of our favorite Ridge Zinfandels and vintages. This is the 6th bottle we’ve tasted in the last 5 years. Still on point and lovely with food. This anniversary dinner was Latin inspired flavors at Trestle.

The color is a dark, almost opaque, ruby. Brown sugar is the first note to waft from the glass. At first, brown sugar – a note I usually associate with younger Zins – is about all that can be detected. Then bramble berry, Zin funk, sour cherries, cinnamon notes come through. The flavors track the bouquet, but the attack is thin. By that, I mean that the fruit is thin on the attack and then the wine moves quickly to mid-palate and finish. The fruit appears to be fading. The ’09 vintage was a weaker vintage after all. A perfectly fine wine, but one that is likely past its prime. Drink up. Absolutely no sediment. An eye-popping15.2% alc. With grilled bone-in pork chops with balsamic marinade under caramelized onions. 04.23.22. Recommended.
