  • Medium brown colour with a touch of amber. Nose is very complex with notes of pecan nuts, white balsamico, salinity and chalk. Nuttiness very strong in the taste, very low muted fruit (bitter orange peel) crushed seashells, some heat. Full body, dry, long, medium-high acid. Excellent.

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of medium amber colour, with greenish-yellow rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with pronounced intensity aromas of oxidation notes of toffee, kernel notes of walnut and roasted almonds, citrus fruit of orange peel, dried fruit of raisins and figs, maturity notes of honey, mineral notes of saline. The wine is fully developed.
Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has high alcohol and medium (-) body, with pronounced intensity flavours of oxidation notes of toffee and caramel, kernel notes of roasted almond, citrus fruit of dried lemon, dried fruit of figs. The wine has a long finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Amontillado with a very intense nose showing great development characters, with plenty of toffee and different types of nuts, orange peel and dried fruit, as well as saline minerality. On the palate the wine has good acidity, vibrant with energy despite its age, with also concentrated flavours and a very long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 10-15 years.

  • Cracked another bottle, still very happy with my last note. Bone dry, salty, acidic, incredible freshness and intensity. So complex and long. Top. 18.5/20.

  • Amber bronze colour, clearing at the rim, watery. Aromatically complex with aldehydic notes. Burnt orange toffee, treacle and bush honey - sweeter smelling than it tastes - old English Christmas cake, preserved citrus fruit, grilled almonds and walnuts, vanilla pod and salty iodine. On palate, a sweet entry then savoury, mushroomy and earthy flavours. Fresh and preserved orange peel, tart marmalade, caramel, saltanas, apple pie and maple syrup with a lick of rock salt and minerals. Dense and full. Smooth and sleek. Dry with fresh, bright acidity. The alcohol (21.5% ABV) not over-prominent. Very long, finishing on some pleasant bitterness.

  • Gorgeous nose — butter, rum, caramel, full and complete, not peaky at all. Intense palate, high alcohol is apparent, nutty finish — sulfurol maybe? There’s also some tannin and a tiny touch of bitterness. Excellent.

(NV González Byass Amontillado VORS Del Duque, Jerez) Although it’s best known for its signature Tio Pepe Fino, González Byass produces a full range of outstanding Sherries, none better than the Amontillado Del Duque. The VORS designation (Very Old Rare Sherry) indicates that the average age of this stunning fortified wine is more than 30 years. Aromas and flavors suggest pressed flowers, dried Asian spices, roasted nuts, desiccated fruit, and old wood. Serve slightly cool with semi-hard cheese and dried fruit. Hot Picks
