  • Lovely wine. Cork is completely saturated. Was time to drink. Don’t wait

  • Beautiful aged Rioja - with quintessential elements of tart fruit, orange peel, spices, crushed flowers and cloves. Opens up fast and goes down even faster.

  • Needs to be decanted and open in glass to soften up

  • With Darryl and Larissa, for Darryl’s birthday. The filling-level was top shoulder. I confirm Zorg’s experience, the cork was loose and it would have been easy to push it down into the bottle. It broke, but did not crumble and came out in two pieces. The wine was medium garnet in colour, with and orange tinge, orange towards the edges, and it threw some sediment. It offered orange, burned caramel, mushroom, some leather, tobacco and balsamic notes on the nose. On the palate the wine showed oranges, red fruit, red cherry, mushroom, tobacco, spices and hints of cinnamon and vanilla as well as balsamic notes, with lively, medium-plus acidity, fully resolved tannin and very good length. The light- to medium-bodied wine seemed a slightly thin; it was sweetish on the entry and sour and a little drying on the finish. Tasted pre-dinner it was O.K. and sort of nice and vaguely reminiscent of great, old Riojas if a little thin, tasted with BBQ sauce spare ribs it was overpowered by the sauce and tasted bland, tasted with blank spare ribs (no BBQ sauce) it showed best, became fuller, with more harmonious acidity. Overall a nice, fully mature Rioja. Considering that this bottle was very well preserved and you will probably not find many better bottles of this 1982 I would recommend drinking now.

  • Fabulous aged rioja. Perfect acid backbone with lots of secondary black fruit, raisin, chocolate, and spice. Mellowed after an hour and lost some structure but still very enjoyable especially considering it's not even a reserva.
