Nothing short of glorious. My first guess would have been a Beaujolais cru -- but my very uncertainty about which one would have told the whole story -- it's got a Morgon-like body with very un-Morgon-like aromatics, levity, and, yes, the barest hint of sugar. As with other Lafittes, one is forced into a radical reconsideration of what a Rhone-varietal-based wine can be. Everyone's favorite wine of the evening. Had before and after burgers, and everyone had less interest in the very good Chinon and Bordeaux that followed.

no funk on this magnum.
Tasted like cru beaujolais. Bright and juicy. Didn't get any rhone varietals.

Selection Massale-New Releases (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Strange brew of carbonic maceration aroma and some unidentifiable flaw that made it smell like dirty socks. I couldn't bring myself to taste this one.
