  • Dark garnet in color with some clearing at the edges. Full, forward, & attractive nose of well developed, ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & black currants with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, cedar, tobacco, mushrooms, leather, tar, cocoa, coffee, minerals & a hint of oak. Full bodied with very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, supple & well developed, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with mushrooms, minerals, dried herbs & a hint of oak. Long, lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but at 24 years of age it is at its peak of development. Although it may onto its current stage of development for a few more years, any further development would be minimal. Fill was in lower neck; cork was clean & intact.

  • "Deep Italian'" Wine Dinner (New Jersey): In my cellar since release. Double decanted at 2pm and taken to a tasting event. Medium garnet color with slightly bricked edge. Nose at first was smoky and oaky, but seemed to dissipate quickly, the some earthiness, mushroom and black berries. Palate show red and black fruit, Medium+ tannin and acidity. Good Length. Later this showed well and added more florals on the nose and a bright cherry core. definitely improved with the air and the duck confit pasta.

  • Agree that it is a wee bit past prime but still an awesome bottle of old-world Italian artistry.

  • Expecting this classic Brunello to be past its prime at 22 years, I cannot imagine it would have given greater pleasure any years younger!
Complex aromas of dried roses, leather, tobacco and earth overlaying faint underpinning notes of black cherry and black raspberry that belie its age. High aromatic and flavor intensity with very long finish contrast with a smooth and elegant body. Perfectly crafted to deliver on everything you hope for when you cellar a wine for this long. Impressive!
