  • Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Deep garnet color with no bricking. Nose of leather, cherry, tobacco, graphite, and banana. Well developed mouth feel with hints of cherry, herbs, and dark berries. Tannins fully incorporated into fruit. After reviewing previous notes (2014-2017) others have posted for this wine I question whether prior tasters might have scored this wine more favorably had they held it for a few more years.

  • An unpleasant nose upon opening which suggested that perhaps this wine is past its prime. Upon initial taste there was also something sour overpowering the intended blend that I could detect beneath. After thirty minutes the wine opened a bit and I could taste more of a lower end Bordeaux might taste like.

  • As expected from the warm '09 vintage, this blend of Merlot (63%), Cabernet Sauvignon (32%), and Cabernet Franc (5%) has a lovely nose of ripe plum, warm blackberry and raspberry, and dark cherry, along with earth, graphite, and a creamy lactic note. There isn't much fruit on the palate, and hardly any depth, but there's some nice sour cherry mixed with black pepper, herbs, chocolate, and replays of earth and graphite, along with a touch of medicinal mint and licorice. It dries out quickly, and it probably isn't going to get any better, but it's quite acceptable, if given air, a decent, inexpensive Bordeaux from Maison Sichel, the owners of the rather more famous Château Palmer and Château d'Angludet.

  • The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and gooseberry. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.
