Wow, I couldn't find this bottle a few months ago, but I found it now, and it was gangbusters! This is for the old school crowd, that appreciate leather, tar and anise. I was surprised how well this drank, but not surprised at all that it paired well with grilled lamb leg. Sadly my last bottle, but I've got multiple vintages in the wings.

A good, serious, take on this wine - even from a blisteringly hot vintage. Nose reminiscent of aged Bordeaux - with something more vegetal and earthy. Cigar, tomato, blueberry compote, dill, charcoal, black raspberry. Palate balanced, acid remarkably lifted for vintage, mineral, tannins integrated. It has come together amazingly beautifully. The grenache shows in this vintage more than many.

Took 30m to open, at which point it became gloriously fragrant with dried roses, blackberries, asian plums, maybe a touch of chaparral herbs. Similar on the palate. Grippy but soft tannins and good acidity. Bit of a porcini note on the long finish.

A little marmite aroma. Fresh and chewy. Savory to another degree.
