  • Wow, really screaming-great Riesling. Hint of sweetness, but great acid and aromatics. This bottle was really hard to follow, should have had it last.

  • Aromas jumped from the glass of this young Riesling, showing ripe pear, peach skins, wet mineral laden stone and hints of lemon. On the palate, there was a yin yang of fruit, acidity and minerality. Grapefruit was foremost with an equal doses of acidity as expected from a bite, note the sprinkle of sugar on top. Ripe peach flavor and weight added balance, along with gorgeous saline minerals, which poured out as the mouth began to water. The finish made the cheeks pucker with slight lemon pith, hints of fresh honeycomb and inner floral notes. To say i enjoyed this wine would be an understatement.

  • Yet another delicious and compelling 2011. The Stein Palmberg-Terrassen Spätlese feinherb for the last few vintages has been one of my favorites. Sorry, but I am three weeks away from this bottle and have no notes. I certainly loved the wine and remember its clarity and pureness. Anecdotally, this was closer to trocken than feinherb. Note: the three bottles I have had from Ulli Stein this year have all been quite dry perceptually, but have also had plenty of pith and body. With the 2011 Alfer Holle being like a Clos St Hune, then stretched a little bit, while retaining body and not going austere.

  • Clear and bright in the glass, medium-minus lemon in color. A youthful nose of medium-plus intensity with notes of pear, slate, green apple skin and lemon juice. Off-dry on the palate, medium-plus acidity, medium-plus alcohol (13%), medium intensity and body. A touch of peach on the palate in addition to citrus/apple, minerality and pear. Very good indeed, nicely balanced on the palate with plenty of acidity to offset the sweetness.
