Rockss and Fruit

(Roumier Bonnes Mares) I opened this at around 4pm at the store and right out of the gates this wine was singing. But when we finally poured it in our glass to accompany this course it was very shut down and showing lots of 88'itis. A true rollercoaster as all young Burgundy is. At first it was vibrant and rich with very pretty red fruit and lots of barnyard and sous-bois on the nose. But as the food arrived (yes I had food with it but am trying to keep food references to a minimum as I do not want this in the F&W forum) it was a shell of itself with some awkward tannin, angular fruit and jarring acidity. Good concentration and with some severe swirling it show glimpses of greatness but ultimately chug this wine in five minutes or wait twenty more years. Glad I had the privilege of trying it though.
