Opaque but lively deep purple: so sign of any age. On the nose it's different, though, with an initial burst of rich raspberry fruit followed fairly quickly by mature notes of tapenade and woody undergrowth. Tannins are silky, and acidity is faded, though still there. Yes, texturally it's lovely, but aromatically and in terms of presence on the palate it is muted, or tired. 13 years is not that old for a Cornas, so I'm going to assume this is just not a lucky bottle. Cork, 13.5%.

PnP with 20 minutes of initial air time. Powerful nose, with intense aromas of ripe blackberry, peppered beef, and vanilla. Tart dark berry, black pepper, smoked meat, and a skosh of vanilla integrate seamlessly, with a luscious, satiny mouthfeel. Oak increases with more airtime, with a more aggressive waxy note bubbling to the surface. It's a touch closed, but still delicious.

Great notes of garrigue and Violettes. Palate is refined with soft tannins and iron/ alkaline acidity.qines has at least 10 more years of aging left.

Cave de Tain dinner (The Wine Circle, Virginia Water): Pronounced quite complex aromas/flavours of black fruits, liquorice, pepper, some vanilla and game notes. Quite full bodied with well integrated tannins.
