  • 13% alcohol. Tasted half blind.

Quite limpid pale whitish-green color. Ripe, rich and sweet-toned nose with opulent aromas of juicy green apples, some pear jam, a little bit of lemon marmalade, light apricot tones, a floral hint of apple blossom and a touch of honey. The wine is ripe and full-bodied with some noticeable sense of breadth, yet the wine never once comes across as particularly ponderous or heavy. There are juicy flavors of ripe white peach, some chalky mineral bitterness, a little bit of flinty smoke, light pineapple tones, a pithy hint of pomelo and a touch of savory spices. The moderately high acidity and bitter undertones manage to keep the wine enjoyably firm and balanced despite the big body. The finish is quite long with some alcohol warmth and rich yet lively flavors of apricot, some wizened red apples, a little bit of honey, light pineapple tones, a hint of chalky mineral bitterness and a touch of alcohol.

A very big, bold and noticeably ripe Riesling with lots of breadth and opulent fruit. Impressive in size and pretty tasty for the style, the wine is - however - a bit too big and ripe for my taste. There's a lot to like here, but my preference is a bit lighter and more delicate expression of Riesling. Perhaps some more aging might strip the wine of its most fleshy fruit? Good stuff, but not great.

  • Wachau Spring Wine Festival (Wachauer Weinfrühling) (The Wachau): Delicate white peach, pear and blossom aromas; like the Steinriegl, very dry on the palate, with lime and yeast characteristics. € 22. ***
