The Clos Solene "L'Insolent" is normally a Cabernet Sauvignon based wine. However, the 2011 vintage of L'Insolent is a blend of Syrah (45%), Petit Verdot (36%), and Cabernet Franc (19%). Guillaume and Solene Fabre, the proprietors decided to make the 2011 vintage with this blend because the 2011 cabernet sauvignon harvest was not ideal in Paso Robles. Rather than reduce the quality of the wine, they decided on this blend for the 2011 vintage. Personally, I am glad they did as the Syrah based wine was lucious with firm structure. Truly wonderful. I expect the wines will age very nicely. Guillaume and Solene expect to go back to a cabernet sauvignon based L'Insolent in future vintages, depending on the quality of the yield.
