In my opinion Alta Colina has the best syrahs on the planet. They are BIG full bodied with balanced tannins. This was a 2011 so another 5 years it would have just been that much better, but I couldn't wait. Each of their "big" three has a its own character but all are great. If you have not tried them.... get a bottle.

{tasting room visit} One of the more interesting wines of the tasting, and one that if it lives up to the potential that the nose suggests, will be highly rewarding. As it is, this needs more bottle rest if it's going to add some more weight and complexity. The nose is simply beautiful, with a very appealing blend of grilled and cured meats, and peppery earth. 15,3% abv., drink thru 2020.
Served non-blind; PnP (needs 2-3 hours of aeration in decanter)

This is pretty damn good! Thick blackberry and wild berry fruit with some earth and white pepper notes to it. Firm tannins, long finish.
