  • Very good.

Well balanced acidity and fruit, but surprisingly one dimensional - no secondary notes to harmonize with a single tone of predominately dark cherry, only a bit of sous bois well in the background. A moderately long finish, somewhere between tart and dry.

    Rated +1 on a scale of -1 to +3.

  • Penultimate bottle from my case and still going strong. In fact, my previous note from October 2017 is still very much to the point. Still wonderfully fresh and floral, light body but juicy and rounded, warmth from the wood but good definition, gentle tannins, supple and well-balanced, old vine creaminess, rosehip and a touch of white nuts, perfectly acceptable length. Very good for what it is.

  • Tenth bottle from a case. This is now fully mature, with well-developed and defined flavours, a clear and well-balanced structure, warmth and freshness and good persistence. It may be a bit light in body and intensity, but the attractive creaminess in the texture and the innate elegance make up for this. Good persistence. Amazing value for € 12.20 (at auction) and recent vintages are priced similarly in the trade (in Europe at least).

  • Hasn't moved much since my first btl back in Jan 2016. Made from vines planted between 1955 -1974 that shine through with depth and somewhereness. Lighter ruby red color with ambering edges. Excellent balance and characterful terroir expression. Nota "fruit bomb" but rather, a earthy minerally, terroir bomb :). Elegant spicy dark cherry, earth, more earth and minerality. 12% Alc. This was my last of two 2012s and I'm looking forward to trying the 2015s this fall! Biggest problem with this wine is it has very poor distribution in the Minneapolis St Paul areas. My local retailer seems to always struggle sourcing Rosenthal wines to the point of utter frustration for me. He gives me the impression that Rosenthal is jerking him around. I'm not sure who is to blame but I'm semi walled off from buying several wines I really like from Rosenthal with any semblance of convenience.
