  • 14,5% alcohol.

Quite dark, deep and luminous black cherry color with relatively little transparency for a Nebbiolo. Rather pare raspberry red rim. Brooding, dark-toned nose with somewhat woody nose with savory, toasty oak, ripe black cherries, some juicy boysenberries, a little bit of sweet, dark-toned oak character, a hint of red cherries and a touch of chocolate. The wine is full-bodied, dense and pretty ripe with rich flavors of sweet black cherries, toasty spice, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of sweet chocolatey Cognac oak and a hint of plummy dark fruit. The wine feels quite big, but not heavy or particularly extracted. The acidity is moderately high and the firm tannins are medium-to-moderately high. The finish is quite tannic and grippy with rather rich flavors of peppery spice, sweet boysenberries, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of cocoa and a hint of toasty oak character.

A big, ripe and brooding Barbaresco with still somewhat notable oak character. Not the worst offender in this style, but overall the wine feels still too young and not really old-school in any way. I imagine this wine will continue to improve in a cellar for years and will show much better once the oak has integrated better with the fruit - although not particularly in-your-face, the oak here feels a bit disjointed from the fruit. The 14,5% alcohol feels a bit too high. Quite good and enjoyable Barbaresco already, but not really my cup of tea - at least for now.
