Napa 2023: the quieter version; 2/6/2023-2/11/2023 (Napa/Sonoma California): Usually the Melbury is the ‘welcome to the party’ glass that is almost always ready for business almost right away and kindof sets the stage and is a pleasant wine to lean on while the others open up and strut their stuff. That was not so much the case here. It’s still a nice wine but a bit more subdued. A bit of dusty red fruits and maybe a hint of the pencil shavings but honestly I felt like I was stretching for descriptors. Mostly, it’s quiet at the moment. Didn’t really change through the tasting. Suspect it’s just a phase.

Most restrained of the portfolio. Red fruit nose and palate. Fine tannins. Balanced. No tertiary notes at this point but the oak is integrated. Early drinking phase

After a lukewarm impression at release, this bottle really has come around. Fruit, mild meat, camphor on the nose. Fruit forward, but not overtly so. Very fine tannins on the finish. Although 2012 is overshadowed by '13 (great year for all of Napa), this is drinking beautifully right now

This has come together since its slightly disjointed youth, and is drinking superbly nowadays.
