  • Still rough at this stage with lots of tannins... forget these for another 5 years minimum

  • Slow ox'd for an hour before dinner. It was the first try of a dozen bottles I stashed in my basement 3-4 years ago and it wasn't worth the storage space. There was a background flavor that came through on the finish that was a party basher. Not that we were having much of a party to begin with. A $10 Rhone would have been more pleasant.

The flavor was a brown mudpie that stuck mid-palate, earthy in a bad way. We just had to put it in the fridge and open another bottle. The second day was better and the mudpie had moved on, but still not something I would admit having paid the hefty price tag.

I haven't had much luck at all with the Tempier brand. My last one was a bretty La Migoua.

  • A wine built with structure and stuffing to develop for another decade (at least), but also very enjoyable now. Very well crafted, great balance and a sense of completeness also in its youth. Dark fruit, spices/dried herbs and a sense of warm earth (but not really alcoholic heat) on the nose. Full bodied, with slightly drying but elegant tannins. Good length with a bit of chocolate on the finish.

Superbe. 93 pts

  • Decanted and poured, this wine gave an excellent showing. Compared to the recently tasted 2011, the 2012 seems more firm and reserved. The palate shows a high degree of structure that make the wine seem reserved and somewhat unyielding. The components are here to develop and improve with additional bottle age. On this occasion the wine benefits from decanting. This wine drinks well now with airing and some patience. The wine gives the overall impression that it will benefit from additional bottle age.
