  • Accidentally called this the 2003 Brune et Blonde. Since corrected. I found two bottles of this in my highly disorganized cellar. Against all odds, this wine is still alive and pleasant to drink. Bought a case at auction years ago, and I thought it was all gone. Better years ago, if you own this wine, I suggest you drink up! Addendum: On day three, stored at 65 degrees, this wine is still drinkable, but has acquired a balsamic character. Fruit is hard to find. Will have my remaining bottle soon.

  • Against All Odds, this wine still lives! Brings out the necrophile in me. I'm trying to eliminate the dead wood from my cellar and occasionally, I find a pleasant surprise. This is one of them. This is the last bottle that comes from a case I bought at auction years ago. The fact that this is the last bottle is mercifully good.It was better ten years ago. This has been a fabulous wine over the years. Wish that I had aged as well.

  • Still fairly dark in color, looks at least 10 years younger than it should be. Clean and floral nose, very nice. Showing the age on the palate though, tannins mostly softened. Ripe and dark fruits, bits of dark chocolate at backend. Excellent complexity and length, hints of oaks still lingering on at backend. Very good showing today, these old Guigal Cote Rotie seems to always outperform. Can last a long time based on this showing. Good get from auction.

  • Musk, meat, and smoke gave way to violet, acacia, blackberry and cherry. Felt almost Burgundian at this point. This reached peak around hour 4, and then faded away. Maybe past it's prime, but I found it enjoyable nonetheless.

    (E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde) Slightly bricking, light medium red color with pale meniscus; nice lamb jus and pepper nose; lovely, lamb and beef jus, borscht and horseradish palate, probably at its prime; medium-plus finish
