This was better than I anticipated. It has mellowed into a delightful wine with plenty of cab character, cassis, cedar, lead pencil, saddle leather, with nice touches from the Syrah: smoke, a hint of tar, mocha and violets. Very long finish with velvety tannins. Really fun, pleasurable wine. It can go another 8-10 years, easy

Purchased at release and stored in a temperature controlled cellar. Big, lush and very much a one note wine. The note is very good but I’m left wanting some complexity. Nose has a nice big note of red/black fruit and a little white pepper spice Palate is rich and big with lots of fruit, hints of leather and pepper spices. Not very complex but certainly delicious.
Not really my cup of tea these days but I understand how this would be a crowd pleaser.

The Ptera wines are cab sauv/syrah blends. I don't recall if this one is 50/50 or 60/40 (whichever this one is, the 2012 is the other). That aside, here is the kind of wine that proves the genius of this blend. At 11 years out, it's still fresh but the tannins are relaxed and some leathery notes are just coming into play. Full bodied, elegant, and just coming into its prime drinking window. Should hold here for years to come. Outstanding.

A spectacular wine, that still has a lot of life left, very enjoyable.
