One of the three bottles of red the 6 of us consumed during our socially distanced Mothers Day dinner. Red fruit on the nose. The palate was red berries, red plums, baked apple and a hint of baking spices. Strawberry dominated the finish which was moderate to long.

PNP. Somewhat concerned when the initial pour was amber, but the wine migrated quickly to garnet red when exposed to air. Aromas of rose pedals, cherry, earth and blackberry. Full, generous mouthfeel with flavors of dark cherry, anise, cranberry, strawberry, graphite, nutmeg and clay. Layered and complex with fine tannins and refined tannins. Long, enjoyable finish. Ready to drink. A fine example of pinot from the Carneros region of Napa Valley.

Deep scarlet in the glass with very shy nose of cranberry and earth. “Well,” someone said, “This doesn’t bode well.”
But then we took our first sips. And boy oh boy does this wine pack a punch! (We’d overlooked the 14.7 ABV on the label.) Rich, exuberant, candied cranberry and cherry attacked our palates followed by notes of cherry cola, smoke, and spice. Earth and mushrooms came through on the mid-palate and lasted through the long finish. Very soft tannins and a mild acidity on the finish.
Not really our favorite style of pinot, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. If you like big California pinot, this is drinking really well right now. What an experience.

Still drinking nicely! Great fruits and refined body with a nod to Burgundy. Lingering finish that continues to build.
