Unfortunately, my last bottle. This is a more red-fruited vintage than the 2010 I just tried. Not as expansive on the palate, but this is still a nice drinking wine from a so-so vintage.

Deep cherry core enveloped in leather, tobacco and funghi aromas.
Cherry continues on the palate which has very weel integrated tannins and a silky feel. This is very delicious now and certainly can keep. But will probably not get much better.

My last bottle and it showed well. Light-medium ruby. Bing cherry nose. Unlike some Chiantis, this one had plenty of flesh on the bones to stand up to the acid; one of the better-balanced such wines I have had in recent memory. Piquant, matched marinara sauce wonderfully. Right in the middle of its drinking window I should think. I like the style; not sophisticated or trying to be something it is not, just a nice red-with-pasta kind of wine. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

I guess there may be other producers that folks might consider as (or more) traditional, but more often than not, when I think about what Chianti means to me, Castell'in Villa is the producer that comes to mind first.
And for a middle of the road vintage, this wine is drinking great today - vibrant cherry fruit on the palate, good acidity & persistence - in short, pleasure in a glass. One of my last bottles from a case bought on release, and I will be sad to see these go, as off today's showing, this wine might have another decade of good drinking ahead of it.

Castell’in Villa
Dark cherry, almost forest like with still a kick to the acidty, but very mellow tanins. Great tasting wine.
