Really interesting wine. It smelled really weird, sort of sweet almost like it was still fermenting when first opened, but two hours in a decanter did wonders. Lots of black and dark red fruit, with these lovely, velvety tannins, and a lingering spicy finish. I don’t have a lot of experience with high quality blaufrankish, especially with a decade of age on it, but this really fun to drink. Paired very well with a crawfish étouffée and with candied walnuts.

Meiningers Finest 100: International Wine Summit (Saalbau, Neustadt an der Weinstraße): Still very young with a ton of dark fruit (blackberry, black currant, blueberry) mixed with soft, polished tannins and a medium+ to full body. The lively acidity keeps everything in balance. It will be really interesting to see how this wine develops in the future. I need to try a older Reihburg soon.

I drank this wine over the course of a week and even left wine in the glass overnight for tasting the next evening. This wine is very dense in colour and structure but at the same time very subtle. Over the course of the week the tannins were less dominating but the intensive minerality of this wine stayed. I wouldn’t open another bottle before 2022.

Schiefer Reihburg-Vertikale 2024 mit Uwe Schiefer, Weinkosterei Burg Schlaining 23.2.2024, Austria (Weinkosterei, Schlaining Castle, Burgenland, Austria): 2012 is a good vintage for Burgenland-reds, especially for the "Eisenberg". This bottle showed very well developed on the nose. The palate is fresh, light to mid-weighted and shows floral aromas paired with red fruits. Will certainly need another 5 years to develope even more tertiary elements for complexity but is in a nice spot right now. Drink with air or keep for another 5 years in the cellar!

Great wine - right in its drinking window. Tannins are well integrated, spicy, good depth
