More drinkable than I had expected. This was like watching a favourite movie on a black and white TV,: still recognisable and enjoyable but only a shadow of what it could have been.

1981&1982: It had some signes of being faulty, I suspect the bottle wasn't in its prime condition. Meaty, pickle nose, some black pepper and dill. Lacking in vibrancy or nerve, very calm, albeit quite fresh and green. Gigondas of the same vintage was clearly better.

Guigal Hermitage Vertical (Palo Alto): Nose is a bit shrill, lacking in fruit, bare shell of what it was; palate is a bit acidic, slightly oxidized. 84. My #6, Group's #6.

1978-2003 Guigal Hermitages (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Lighter color than the other wines in this flight. Bretty, old nose. Slightly corked (B+). Slightly corked palate (B/B+).
My #7, Group's #6 (104 pts). Tasted blind.
