Nose shows deep mixed berries, bramble and vanilla to start, with dried sage and earth emerging with air. Clear oak influence, but not overdone. Fruit forward on the palate, mostly darker fruits, but good balance and tasty. Medium tannins. Still plenty of life left, but not sure whether this is an ultra long ager.

This wine has settled down in the almost two years since I tasted it last (1/16 - 92 points), but it hasn't improved in this period, either. Even though the wine is more integrated than before, it's slipped a bit in terms of focus and nuance - there is far more plum and raisin than before, which makes me think drinking now makes sense.
Dark red in color, full in body, nose of graphite, raisin, and cedar. Tastes of plum, leather, vanilla, and straw, with a finish that has - for the most part - integrated its tannins. 14.4% alcohol. Unfortunately, the fruit has lost a bit of its focus: where before it seemed concentrated and boisterous, now it is a bit diffuse and over-baked. My guess is that it would have been best to drink in 2016 (three years after vintage). It's still a decent 100% Merlot, but it just didn't develop as I had hoped.

Showing nicely...but also revealing its age. Time to drink up.

Lovely California Merlot - somewhat fruit forward but not jammy. Great finish that lingers for seconds.
