  • Had with homemade burgers and fries. What you expect. Very dark. Nose has blackberry jam, honey, slate. Needs little air, just silky smooth fruit. Ripe plums, cassis. Overall presents clean and focused. I won’t criticize this wine like others for not having old world complexity. That’s not what its about. It offers good quality for the price in Napa without the ostentatiousness of its peers. Not too sweet or oaked. Hard pressed to find a meal it won’t pair with.

  • With the ratings all over the spectrum on this, I wasn't sure where exactly to land. I thought it overall represented the region and brand. I didn't find it over-extracted or that much over the top. It got a little better over time and was passable. By no means was it spectacular nor ultimately worth the price for the bottle.

  • Decanted but not breathed. Herbaceous nose of fennel, mint. Powerful punch of prunes, black current on the palette, old leather. Surprisingly low tannin. Typical full-bodied Napa cab.

  • By the glass. With this wine, the usual thing continues to happen on me, my brain cannot forget how nice the SS was that we tasted in the second Judgment of Madrid. Without the elegance of his older sister but still heady, fresh and, of course, concentrated. Black fruit on a wooden plank on the nose, a little spicy and alcoholic. A large CS, tannic and thick on the palate. I would always choose to pay double for the aristocratic touch of the Special Selection.
